4 August-
Why Psychology?
Who are you? Why are you taking the class? What are your motivations to be successful? What are your expectations for the class? These are a few of the questions we will discuss in the first few days of class.
How do we learn?
What is learning? Why do we learn things? How do we learn them? Where do we learn? Why do we learn? These are but a few questions we will address in our introduction to the course so that you will have the tools you need to be available. As a part of this discussion we will view the following video clip of a TEDx talk by John Green. If the imbedded video does not work properly, it can be found here.
5 August-
Recap how to change your maps of the world (From the "Paper Towns" TEDx talk above)
The class will discuss how we can change our maps of the world
How important are learning communities? (Continuation of the discussion from theTEDx talk from Monday)
What are learning communities? How can you use them to your advantage? What learning communities are you a part of? Where are they?
What Motivates You?
Why do you do what you do? Why are you taking this class? Why are you in school? What do you want to do?
Understanding what motivates us in life can help us realize what is important to us, as well as help us reach our potential. We will discuss various motivators in peoples lives and hopefully will walk away with a better understanding of why you do the things you do.

How do we remember things?
Why do we remember some things and not others? How can we remember things? Does the environment we learn things in effect where/how we will recall them? These are some of the questions we will address in our discussions on the stages of memory and how to best use our study time in order to remember what we need to remember.

Stand and Deliver
We will spend two days viewing the film "Stand and Deliver" about an AP Calculus teacher. As you view the film, consider the following; What are the students motivations, what is the teachers motivation, how do they accomplish the seemingly impossible? If they could accomplish what they did, what is you excuse for anything in life?
