Regional and Trans-regional Interactions c.600-c.1450
As we make our way through this unit we will discuss the increase in regional trade routes, and the emergence of inter-regional trade routes that will bring on the early modern era. We will use the following framework concepts for the unit:

Key Concept 3.2. Continuity and Innovation of State Forms and Their Interactions
Key Concept 3.3. Increased Economic Productive Capacity and Its Consequences
We will specifically discuss the Rise of New Religions (Islam and the expansion of Christianity), Caliphates, the Franks, the Vikings Inner and East Asia, The Mongols, Tropical Africa and Asia and will wrap up the unit with late Medieval Western Europe, and the Age of Exploration

Week One: Commerce and Culture, 500-1500 (Chapter 8)
During the first week of this unit we will be discussing the emergence of more organized and substantial trade routes during this time period. The small scale, long distance trade of the past transitioned into large scale networks of routes that connected the poeple of Eurasia like never before. THe chapter is divided into three main sections (Silk, Sea, and Sand)

31 October: Today we will discuss the Sand roads of the trans-Saharan Trade as well as the trade "webs" of the Americas.
3 November: Today you will take your quiz on the Trade routes from Chapter 8. You will be able to use your notes packet/flashcards on the quiz, but will not be allowed to use your book.

Week Two: China and the World, East Asians Connections, 500-1300 (Chapter 9)
During the first week of this unit we will be discussing a reunified China that emerged during this period as the Chinese people came back together politically after centuries of fragmentation.

- Summary page for Chinese Dynasties- (some of this is review from earlier sections) If you need to use the books from the shelf by the door to help complete it for all dynasties from the Xia to the Ming Dynasties feel free to do so.

Weeks Three: The World of European Christendom: Connected and Divided, 500-1300 (Chapter 10)
This chapter will explore the Christian kingdoms of Europe as the Unite together into larger kingdoms and fall back into political chaos.

11 November: After the quiz, we will introduce the worlds of European Christendom and distribute your notes for the chapter
12/13 November: We will dig in depth in the chapter and cover the rise and fall of the Byzantine Empire as well as introduce the Frankish kings with a focus on the Carolingians.
14 November: We will discuss European society noting Feudalism and Manoralism and the role religion played in both. We will begin to discuss the crusades.
17 November: We will wrap up our discussion of the Crusades by discussing their long term impact on not only Europe and the Middle East, but the world as a whole.
18 November: You will take your chapter quiz at the beginning of class and will then introduce the next chapter.
