As we make our way through this unit, we will cover the origins of the modern world, centered on the Colombian exchange of people, disease, plants, etc. between the Old World and New.

The following resources will help you as we go through the unit.
Textbook Site: This site has great outlines and quizzes that can help you take notes and prepare for the quizzes, discussions, and the test. Key concepts Outline for the unit. This chart will help guide you through the material in the unit and filling it out will help you figure out what is important. We will discuss it in class at the beginning of the unit. As we go through the unit, I will pull up one in class that is filled out so we can compare the notes you took and the ones I have. Unit Outline- This document outlines the information from the key concepts described above. This is a good way to review material to ensure you have covered everything you will need to know for the test. |

Week One: Empires and Encounters, 1450-1750 (Chapter 13)
With the discovery of the New World by Europeans, it led not only to the creation of the first Global Marketplace, but to a clash of cultures and civilizations that would forever change the world.

This is designed to help you organize your notes a little better, as well as point out a list of key people/concepts/terms from the book that you need to know. This list at the end of the notes would be great material for flashcards. You will have to turn in this completed packet at the end of the week.
Outline for the Chapter- We will be suing this outline in class during the unit to help guide us in our discussions and ensure we are covering the required material. If we do not get to it in class, you will need to look at this at home in order to ensure you have all the material needed.

6 January: Today we will review portions of teh Final exam from last semester. We will then introduce the new topics for the week.
7/8 January: Today we will examine in depth the Paleolithic persistence and compare the exploration of Asia and Europe.
9 January:We will discuss the various Islamic Empires in class today.
12 January: Today we will discuss the Aztec and Incan Empires
13 January: We will recap any material you wish and you will take your quiz over the chapter

With the discovery of the New world in the 15th Century, The way was paved for global commerce to grow and expand as the first global marketplace developed.
